Hydraulics Engineering

Objective

Improving the efficiency of the use of both water and energy, by reducing the environmental impact of irrigation and contributing to reach a sustainable development in arid and semiarid regions.

Activities

They will be mainly focused on the following topics:

  • Improving the efficiency of the use of both water and energy, by reducing the environmental impact of irrigation and contributing to reach a sustainable development in arid and semiarid regions.
  • They will be mainly focused on the following topics:
  • Hydraulics, energetic and economic optimisation of pumping plants, water distribution and irrigation systems, as well as the equipments standardization.
  • Modernization of the existing irrigation systems by introducing new technologies (drip irrigation, subsurface drip irrigation, etc.) and improvement of water application in those systems in which restructuring is not feasible.
  • Irrigation improvement and irrigation modernization projects. These are basic for a sustainable rural development and help to develop the necessary tools and data bases in order to help organizations when making a decision.
  • Promotion of technology transfer to farmers, in order to optimise their use of water and the kind of water management they perform, by providing them with the tools they need.
